A Never Ending “Adventurous Journey

Onyx Ski & Sports Club of Tampa Bay, Inc. was founded on January 30, 1997 as a development club of the National Brotherhood of Skiers (NBS). Joyce Hogue and Ernie Moore are recognized as the club co-founders.

Onyx became an official club of The NBS on May 20, 2000. Additionally, to better serve our members, Onyx became an official member of the Florida Ski Council on May 31, 2008.

The club’s 1st official ski trip was in February 1998 to the NBS Black Summit in Sun Valley, Idaho.

In 2001, the club President Joyce Hogue commissioned the design and purchase of the club’s very first club ski jacket. In 2019, President Darele Campbell commissioned the design and purchase of a 2nd club ski jacket.

The club’s mission is to introduce minority adults and particularly minority children to winter sports. Through the Onyx Ski & Sports Club Youth Development Foundation, Onyx hosts an annual golf tournament fundraiser to help fund various winter sports activities for underprivileged and academically accomplished youth of Hillsborough, Pinellas, Polk, Pasco, Manatee, Sarasota and other bay area counties.
